Thirds come out on top at Kettering

This week saw the kibworth 3s travel to Kettering where the team in second place with 4 wins from 4 were waiting. A similar set up to our own with 2 games side by side ( sharing a boundary!). With gumley in action on the other pitch many eyes were on joely Pickering who was within range against ketts 3s.

My first immediate concerns were the rabbit holes on the outfield that were just big enough to cause a broken ankle. Good job I didn’t ask for them to be filled in as it later became obvious they were the love nests of the Kettering lower order.

After sticking with tradition and losing the toss we were put in on good pitch with one boundary longer than elliots bar tab and one just shorter than jai’s run up.

Amid much chirping regarding Kettering having the two leading league bowlers we tore into the attack and after not too many overs reached 99 for 0. However once I fell at 46 and seb Taylor followed at 42 it became obvious this was a right handers only wicket. Chilly scored a quick 7 and Kean an even quicker 1 making way for our own memory man fido.
Fortunately the only thing fido hasn’t lost recently is his batting ability and once again played superbly for a quick cultured 30.
Fido was eventually given out rather harshly and stood his ground in what was thought to be an act of defiance, it later transpired that he had simply forgotten where and who he was and why he was surrounded by ice cream sellers!

Dependable Dave G scored yet another 50 along with some big shots from bunders. With Poundsey unbeaten on 35 I decided to retire before Rileys batting sent the home side completely suicidal.
281 seemed possibly too many but with the sun shining a short boundary and a hairy opening bowler with a suprising lack of injury worries you can’t be too careful.

Our own half man half goat took the new ball and soon had the openers dancing about. Supported by Tej who would agree didn’t have his usual zip we soon found that the home team had no intention of chasing our score. Cue jai Singh who appeared on the horizon at the end of his run up. Jai bowled 7 controlled overs for a misely 8 runs and was rewarded with 2 wickets. Kev Riley couldn’t quite repeat his feat of last week but still kept the fielders interested.

Enter our current joint highest wicket taker bunders.
Ben took 4 for 23 and along with some pies and a wicket from poundsy we skittled them out for 109.
So another 30 point win takes us to joint 2nd only 13 points behind grendon. This week sees the return of john the ankle butler aswell as the blonde bombshell from Southampton, but with 4 missing for the visit of wicken a few new players will be on view.

But despite our good showing in the averages at the moment we must still be mindful of Dave pounds words of wisdom

“#%*#¥€g averages!! It’s “#%*#¥€g May for #%*#s sake!!!

Keats I think
