A fantastic performance by KCC’s young batsmen laid the foundation for a crushing victory against Ashby Hastings 2’s at Fleckney Rd.
After a bright and breezy knock of 38 from Laurence Joel the wheels threatened to come off with the quick dismissals of Rob Ellwood (bowled by his young cousin!), and John Butler ( drafted in as a batsman due to shortage of players)….left us on 68-4
However, a stand of 140 between Harry Miller and Ben Lodge at over 7 runs an over completely changed the game and featured some sublime stroke play.
Following a hip injury Ben Lodge took advantage of Laurence Joel’s running skills for the latter part of his innings but it did nothing to stem the flow of runs
Lodge fell just short of what would have been a well deserved maiden century on 93 but his disappointment should be balanced against the fact that his previous best score was 19no!….No such disappointment for Harry Miller who calmly reached his hundred with a boundary before the skipper declared with 279 on the board.
Joel then took the opposition batting apart with 5 wickets, ably supported by a one armed Thompson, all rounder Miller and a richly underserved wicket for Laurence Joel.
A great performance and further evidence of the next batch of talent coming through the KCC production line.
