Tada 2012 season. You were cold, wet but finally glorious and the Legends matched the conditions with a comprehensive victory to end their summer time expedition.
Initially things had not gone well. Last weeks heroes, Messer’s Wordsworth and Simpson, fell early on to leave the unlikely middle order pair of Don’t Do Draws Broughton and Wannabe Kangaroo Chaser Jatin Lodhia at the crease. Jatin surprised many by taking full advantage of his last Northern Hemisphere batting opportunity by scoring a club best 23 which included a couple of boundary shots that even bordered on competent. He departed the scene to a well deserved hand and a much needed sit down.
Jatin’s departure left Dan Broughton to anchor proceedings which he did with considerable aplomb on his way to a well deserved round 100, indeed his only concern was that the imminent arrival of his mum would his personal harbinger of doom. He needn’t have worried but given the quality of Angie’s teas it was a chance the rest of the lads were probably happy to take. When John Bleby fell chasing quick runs (or a quick exit) Kibworth were on 142 in the 35th over. Just over 5 overs later Kibworth had finished on 214 thanks to
keen running and some quite frankly fearsome bludgeoning from Monik Patel. Granted his bat is thicker than the remedial class of the Bash Street kids but he clearly has a fantastic eye for the ball and no little power to go with it. It was something special to watch.
Such a total seemed too many for a game Bitteswell side and so it proved as they were all out in the last over 51 runs short. Lee Butler started the party and was able to finish things too by removing Pete ‘Daddy Pedro’ Smith at the end. In between though it was that man again Jatin ‘Crocodile Fleckney’ Lodhia who took four wickets in a monster spell designed to either get him the elusive jug or completely do him in before his odyssey in the
land of the rusty billabong. So the final wicket fell, hands were shaken and for
those with no involvement in the final league matches next week it was
time to start accumulating the weight they will utterly regret when nets
begin in earnest after Christmas.
So long dear reader, its been fun!
