After two cup successes for the first team, the Under 17′s got into the act this weekend by beating Sileby to claim the Leicestershire Youth League title.
After being up in on a bright sunny morning Bhavik & Adil but on 50 for the first wicket before Bhav was comprehensively bowled by Kieran Chance. This brought in Fido who was rapidly into his stride with consecutive fours of Preston’s bowling. Adil meanwhile completed a relatively sedate 47 ball fifty before deciding to floor the accelerator in the 15th over. Thirteen runs were plundered off the unfortunate Preston’s final over and a further nine of the following six balls from the returning Hackett. The worst punishiment was reserved for Notman who, having bowled 3 overs for 14 early in the innings, was blasted for 25 from his final over as Adil reached his ton from 64 balls with his 11th four to go with 6 sixes. Both Fido (41) and Adil (109) fell to final over catches at long on but the final total of 167-3 looked a hard act to follow.
Kibworth’s bowling proved just as impressive as the batting with Chris Carson & Bhavik conceding just 15 from the first four overs. The fielders clearly decided that it was time to get in on the act and three excellent catches rocked Sileby onto the back foot. First Harry Miller picked up a hard hit drive inches from the ground at short over off Chris Carson. Keeper Fido then plucked an inside edge out of the air diving to his left of Jon Bulter and Olli Lodge clung onto a fierce low caught and bowled chance. 33-3 looked like ‘game over’ and so it proved aa skipper Adil used all nine available bowlers whilst the visitors stumbled to 95-5 at the end of their twenty overs.
So a comprehensive win for a talented bunch of young cricketers who still have a cup semi-final again Newbold Verdon to go for next Sunday.
