It was a typical start to an English cricket season, unfortunately! Having waited all winter for the spring to return the players of Kibworth and our visitors Lindum CC found themselves damp and freezing on a day more suited to rugby than cricket.
At least it was dry until tea but a bitter wind meant that kit bags were searched for every layer of clothing possible. At least skipper Craven enjoyed his day, compiling 104 before chipping a catch to deep square leg. It was a much needed contribution because after a promising opening stand with Ram Ghuman of 46, the home side middle order had struggled against a solid visting attack. Saif Bhojani, on debut, Aadil and Daz Shaw contributed 2 runs between them and when Fabian was caught behind for 11, Kibworth had subsided to 92-5. CPM added 45 with his captain before being stumped but Asif Bhojani who was enjoying the South African sunshine just two weeks ago found the same deep square leg fielder who would later claim Matt for a fourth ball duck. When Matt fell it was left to Tom Driver and Aamir to try and up the rate which they did to good effect, harvesting 31 off the final two overs to close the home innings on 227-8 with Aamir 31 not out.
If the first innings was unpleasent, the second was pugatory as light rain fell and the temperature plunged further. Tom Driver claimed two LBW victims in two balls but after 16 overs everyone agreed the the bar and ‘pie & chips’ was a much better idea and the game was abandoned with Lindum on 32-3.
Joe Cuthbert claimed 3-17 as Lindum 2nd XI were limited to 147-8 on the bottom pitch but Kibworth couldn’t force the win as play was abandoned with the home side 104-2.
