The 4’s travelled to play Lutterworth 3’s at Ullesthorpe on Saturday looking to record a 3rd win out of 4 following promotion.
However, the win that followed wasn’t as straightforward as it should have been as at 185-3 with 10 overs to spare we were heading for a mammoth total on the back of a terrific 101 from Bob Beevers and some strong top order hitting from John Pounds and Ian Blunt. A 3rd team style collapse saw us fall to 200 all out with 5 overs still remaining and so the half time team talk from the crocked skipper was not for the faint hearted.
A great start in the field reduced Lutterworth to 18/3 before a mid order stand threatened to ruin the day with some agricultural stroke play meaning that patience was needed as both batsmen used up their full allocation of 9 lives each!
Unusually for the 4’s the catching was poor with 6 chances going down and it was left to the old guard of Jones, Pounds and Chairman to show the youngsters how to do it!.
But the stand was eventually broken and wickets tumbled in the last 15 overs with on field skipper Jon Butler returning 5/38 although he was pipped to the MVP Cap by Bob (pictured), who bagged 4/24 to go with his batting heroics.
However, the highlight of the day was the dismissal of Dave Pounds caught and bowled by Miss Macrae just after he had warned the lads that there was no excuse for getting out to a girl! To be fair, the lady was one of Lutterworths better players but lets not allow fact to get in the way of some ridicule for Yorkshire’s Cultural Ambassador.
