The 1’s travelled to Premier League leaders Kegworth last Saturday looking to build upon their strong recent form and continue their climb up the table and handing a KCC first team debut to new signing Dave Whitmore.
They were presented with a very green wicket and skipper Matt Craven maintained his uncanny knack of losing the toss an KCC were invited to take first knock.
Craven in part made up for his lack of ability at the toss by compiling a stoic 43 to top score in a total of 202/6 off our allocation of 50 overs. He was well supported by Pedro, Daz Shaw, Tom Driver and an excellent 36 from Aamir Mahmood.
The KCC seamers set about their task manfully and dismissed Kegworth for 163 in 42 overs to secure their 3rd big points haul on the spin. Aamir continued his purple patch by taking 4/24 and was well back up by Daz Shaw with 3 wickets, JC with 2 and TD with 1.
Having been awarded the 1’s MVP yellow cap Aamir showed his style by wearing it to open the batting against Leicester Banks in the League Cup on Sunday. Having restricted the opposition to 113 all out the target was easily reached for the loss of just 2 wickets with Aadil and 1st Team Debutant Sam Johnson occupying the crease at the end. Only blot on the landscape was skipper Cravens continued travails with the coin toss…..failing to recognise that there was no threat of adverse weather he chose to insert the opposition rather than bat first and ensure that bar takings were maximised by keeping the crowd entertained for longer!
