In their opening game of the season the U13b team recorded a fine away win against Medbourne. The team, led out by Parth Bhatt and ably supported by vice-captain Seb, consisted of a mix of 7 U13’s and 4 U11’s.
On a clear, dry and slightly windy evening, Kibworth on losing the toss, were invited to bat first on the artificial wicket. The openers Seb and Seth set the tone of the match with a mixture of positive aggression, confidence and smart cricket. Seb was particularly aggressive with anything short and down leg-side with a series of pulls and jabs whilst Seth exercised Boycott like text book cricket and played in the V to give Kibworth a wonderful opening partnership of 60+ of 9 overs.
With the retirement of both openers Seb, and Seth for 26 and 27 runs respectively, Tejas and Parth combined together to slowly but surely build the total to its final total of 105 off 16 overs. Tejas whilst hesitant in the beginning grew in confidence and played a composed innings with the outstanding shot of the match, a pull of his chin down to fine leg for a cracking four. Parth contributed to the score with some lusty blows straight back over the bowler.
With a rousing “sermon” from Seb and good clear fielding and bowling placements from Parth the boys were buoyed for the challenge of defending the total. Kibworth deployed pace from one end, and spin from the other, with Billy and Kush respectively opening the bowling attack. Billy’s opening spell, (2-0-10-0), was full of enthusiasm and his no-nonsense style gave the side confidence in defending the total. Kush with his fine control of spin, length and line beguiled Medbourne into a sea of uncertainty; indeed he was unlucky not to get wickets and finished with fine bowling figures of 3-0-8-0.
Medbourne on 29 for no loss appeared to have weathered the opening spell only to be picked apart from the first change up. With Parth generating good pace and bounce, (1-0-4-0), and with his introduction of Tejas’s spin, the match firmly swayed towards Kibworth.
Tejas returned outstanding figures of 2-2-0-3, to firmly put Kibworth in charge.
Tej, with his endless energy, along with the fantastic support and backing up from the quartet of Jay, Rohan, Alistair and Sam patrolled the close in field to apply considerable pressure on Medbourne and restricting their run-chase. Well done to them.
This tight pressure induced Medbourne to counter-attack and wrestle the game back in their favour, this Medbourne counter-attack produced two great pieces of fielding from Kibworth which resulted in a catch and run-out. Jay standing at point took an awesome sharp catch; Sam running in from mid-wicket picked up and threw the ball to the Seb the keeper for a smart run out.
From 29 for no loss to 45-5, and the pressure fully on Medbourne, Parth was able to hold back the dynamic-Spin duo and the pace men, to allow the middle and final overs to be bowled with ease. This was very ably done by Jay, (1-0-4-0), Rohan, (1-1-0-0), Tej, (1-0-8-0), Sam, (1-0-7-0), from one end and with Seth and Alistair sharing the other end with figures of 2-0-4-0 and 2-0-7-3 respectively, their efforts ensured a tremendous start to the season with a win.
With fine all round performances from Seb, Seth, and solid bowling from the rest, most especially from Alistair’s star turn of 3 wickets for 7 runs, the Man of the Match is awarded to Tejas for his 16 n.o. and 3 wickets for no runs.
A great win for U13b’s. Well done lads and thank you parents for getting them there and on time. . Next up Gilmorton.
