Sunday saw the 1’s entertain League Champions Loughborough Town in the cup in a repeat of last seasons epic final. The game didn’t disappoint, with the result in doubt until the final overs as they delivered a classic in front of a huge and increasingly vocal Fleckney Road crowd.
The game will be remembered for some tremendous batting…..and an incredible display of out-fielding from our boys who managed to “grass” 10 catches which belied the hard work put into this discipline on Thursday nights…..think its only right that we pay homage to this effort in a picture gallery elsewhere and to concentrate on the game here!
Batting first, Loughborough’s opening batters Anish and ex KCC product Sunny put on 113 for the first wicket. A run a ball 50 from Tom Wells guided Loughborough to a challenging 219/5 from their 40 overs.
Kibworth’s response began badly with Craves, Hanger and Aadil all back in the pavilion the wrong side of 30, and Saif was joined at the crease by Daz and they were faced with a massive rebuilding job to get us back in the game. A 100 run partnership did just that before Saif was unluckily dismissed “playing on” by Wells for a terrific 67. The momentum had begun to slowly swing our way and following a short cameo from FK, Daz and Aamir continued in positive fashion before “the Colonel” was caught in the deep for a quickfire 23. Drives belied his claim to be a bona fide all rounder by getting out early which bought the bruised and battered Biffa to the wicket and the “kibworth yoda” produced a gem of a cameo with 15 not out from 10, before Daz struck the winning boundary of the 4th ball of the last over to finish unbeaten on a superb 82.
A tremendous show of character with the bat, given the antics of the fielding performance. Saif and Daz will rightly take the plaudits, but the superb catch from Aadil in the deep could be seen as a true turning point as he showed great character in front of the packed pavilion.
