We hosted our first ECB event of the season last Monday and Tuesday with the group finals of the Ladies County T20 championships between Leicestershire, Gloucestershire and Cheshire.
The finals were due to be played on a round robin basis with the top 2 teams facing each other in the final on Tuesday.
On day 1 Gloucestershire beat Cheshire and Leicestershire beat Gloucestershire. Day 2 was met with heavy rain which forced the cancellation of the scheduled match between Leicestershire and Cheshire which meant that they were both awarded 1 point.
The KCC ground team and volunteers got to work on the wicket as the rain abated and in spite of the ground being virtually underwater at lunch time, the final got away at 3pm and featured Leicestershire against Gloiucestershire. The match was won comfortably by Gloucestershire, who turned the tables on their opponents from Monday to lifet the trophy. A huge thank you to everyone who helped over the 2 days….once again it showed why so many prestigious games are held at KCC and as the following thank you received by the Chairman from the Mike Collett,
Manager Gloucestershire Women’s Cricket shows, our efforts do not go unnoticed…….
I write as the manager of the gloucestershire cricket board’s senior women’s team to compliment your club on its hosting of the ECB T20 competition earlier this week.
In particular the many volunteers who worked their socks off after the heavy rain to make a pitch playable for the final match.
All the other aspects of your club worked excellently as well and your volunteer help is to be commended. Please pass on our thanks to all concerned.”
