The 1’s entertained Barrow on Saturday and constrained the visitors to 154 all out on the back of some miserly bowling from Daz Shaw (1/14) and Matt Bashford (1/25), but it was the unlikely “spin twins” of Aadil Ali (2/11) and Tim Mason (4/24), who did most of the wicket taking damage as the innings was wrapped up inside 39 overs and we went out to start our reply before tea was served.
Unfortunately, skipper Matt Craven didn’t last until the tea interval as his recent purple patch came to an early end as he registered a rare duck. PJ was looking to bow out with a bang in his final innings for KCC this season and had progressed to 16 off 12 balls when he failed to clear mid off and was caught, much to the disappointment of the KCC crowd.
However, any thoughts that there might be an upset on the cards were dispelled as Saif Bhojani and Aadil Ali ensured that there were no further mishaps. Saif finished unbeaten on 73 and Aadil maintained the form he had shown for Leicestershire 2’s with a welcome unbeaten 51. There was one alarming moment for Saif when he was almost bizarrely run out as he looked to complete his 50th run, and it took a full length dive to ensure that he got home. The victory was completed inside 34 overs and 24 points were in the bag, and the gap at the top of the table remains at 22 points with just 3 games to play.
