Kibworth’s U13′s quest for national glory was ended following a heavy defeat to a very strong Cambridge Granta, the county cup champs of Cambridgeshire. Alarms were set early as Kib’s convoy of players, mums, dads & supporters made the trek to a hot & sunny Cambridge. Having won the toss our hosts duly chose to bat first. The flat track, glass like outfield coupled together with Granta’s superb running put Kibworth’s bowlers and fielders under great pressure. After 12 overs of the allocated 20, Granta had raced to 103-2, a total of 180 seemed possible. However, Kibworth rallied, took vital wickets and gave themselves a fighting chance as they ‘restricted’ the opposition to 154-5. Pick of the bowlers was Ed Wall ( 0-19 ), wickets were taken by Jack Bellamy ( 1-25 ), Harry Pounds ( 1-23 ) & Lewis Scott ( 1-16 ). 2 run outs were also completed. A positive reply was called for, unfortunately for Kibworth, wickets fell regularly. Only Jack Houlihan reached
double figures ( 33 retired ) as the visitor’s crumbled to disappointing 69 all out. Special thanks goes to Cambridge Granta for their superb hospitality, and good luck to their team in the next round. Thanks also to our parents for their help and to our band of supporters.
Many thanks to our trainee ‘hack’, young Steve Bellamy who supplied the match report
