The Paul Scott led regime got underway last weekend with a visit to near neighbours Langtons. In spite of the weather the guys got some good cricket in and here is a report from ‘mature’ KCC debutant Simon Cole (Many thanks Simon).
‘Well, it happened. Having raided Sports Direct I made my Kibworth debut, a mere 25 years after my last proper game!
Lee W hit 50 before retiring, whilst fellow opener Seth Brown celebrated turning 15 by bashing a chance less 80 in a century plus opening stand. There was no respite for the Langtons bowlers as Lee’s retirement brought KCC’s other Sunday debutant to the crease. Kiwi Aaron Mauger smashed 50 in no time at all, and retired having cleared the trees with a six that landed in the front garden of the house opposite. Enormous. Last at the crease were the Coles, Father and son scrambling a few more runs to set an impressive 258/7, with two retirements.
KCC opened with Cole jnr, and one of the five Scotts in the side! Cole immediately struck, having the opener caught behind; sadly the only people who thought it not out were the batsman and the bowlers end umpire!
However, justice prevailed as the batsman got another chance to walk a few balls later as he holed out! With the hosts at 38/1 the rain went from being an irritation to being a reason to stop playing.
Cricket was the winner!’
