On arriving at a very wet yet warm Thorpe ground , on inspection of the wicket it would have been difficult to determine what wicket we were playing on if the lines had not been there to gives us a clue . Despite that it was surprisingly dry and a prompt start was on the cards.
A “must win” game for the 2’s and possibly a must win toss to get use of the humid conditions and green pitch .
Acting Captain Pedro duly obliged by losing the toss and the 2’s were inserted .
The pre-innings chat was based around momentum throughout the innings and a quick scoring rate based on the fact , if the weather forecast was correct, we would lose overs.
Out or character for the 2’s of late , the scoring rate was reasonably high , but in character .. So was the frequency of the wickets falling !
At 104 for 4 with 20 overs to go, a good score somewhere north of 220 was on the cards. But rash shots and some poor running resulted in us being bowled out for 177 from 41 overs . No major scorers, but 4 main contributions from Kieran , 20. Dips, 24. Pedro, 32, & Chaos, 37.
The feeling amongst the team at tea was if there attack can reduce us to that score, our attack could do even better on that pitch .
Amir and John. B. took the new ball. The later bowled a quick and probing spell without any luck ( including a “Boosh” at 1st slip from Amir ). But he built pressure and this resulted in Amir reaping the reward at the other end as the wicket tumbled at regular intervals .
At the end of Johnny’s spell of 7 overs, the score was 25 for 5, and Amir had a “Michelle”. A brief burst from Raja, followed by Mahang at Johnny’s end, and then Tej replacing Amir, and things continued in the same vain. Tej & Mahang picked up a wickets in their first overs, then Mahang a couple of overs later. The home side were now in dire trouble . 72 for 8 in 30 overs.
The opening due came back into the attach, and Amir continued his good work. A wicket in his first over back and now Thorpe were 9 down. Last chance saloon for JB to get his name in the wicket column, ad he duly obliged by cleaning up the No.10 with his 4th ball of his comeback over.
Thorpe all out for 78.
Amir pick of the bowlers with 6 for 14 from his 10 overs .
A good and very much deserved win for the 2’s
