The 2’s rolled into Leicester Banks looking for a victory to move themselves into the top half of Division One. With a decent warm-up carried out and Thommo taking a warm-up ball to the head, Pedro was nominated as skipper for the day and he successfully won the toss and sent KCC into bat which was universally decided to be the correct decision until KCC found themselves 3 down, with Hooligan, Pedro and Greeno all back in the pavilion with only 12 runs troubling the scorers.
Mahang and Dips started to build a good partnership much to the frustrations of the Banks’ fielders who were applauding wides with the same vigor as dot balls. As Mahang and Dips continued on, punishing the occasional bad ball, the other KCC players thought it would be a good idea to discuss the merits of voting in or out to the EU referendum. It seems the 2’s is the team to be a part of if you need to understand your politics.
Dips was the next man out with the score on 74. Mahang then had decent partnerships with Hardik and Jonny B moving the scoreboard on. With a few overs remaining,
Bails played some great stick cricket, using his 2005 Woodworm to great effect. This saw KCC finish on 180/7 going into tea with some momentum. Mahang batted brilliantly to finish 77 not out and went to tea without a bead of sweat on his brow, looking like he had been at the crease for the same amount of time as Greeno.
Tej and Jonny B opened up the bowling attack following tea, where it was thought the score was under par on a decent deck & Banks would be on the attack from ball one but if KCC could get an early wicket or 2, it would be game on. An early dropped catch didn’t help matters however Mahang couldn’t keep out of the game and took a good catch at point, even diving after taking the catch just in case cameramen were in attendance. Messo was then brought into the attack, bowled some wides, got put into Belvoir Drive a few times and quickly removed from the attack.
Despite a good fielding performance, wickets shared between Tej, Jonny B, Bails and who else but Mahang, the 2’s were defeated by 6 wickets, meaning an important few games are ahead
