A surprise call up to the thirds saw the Chairman travelling away for the second Saturday in a row. Some say it was because of his strike bowling record others say it was no coincidence that his car was full of youngsters and his boot full of cricket bags!!
That said the trip to Thorpe Arnold was a delight. A good track, dry despite the continuing monsoon, an excellent tea and most importantly opposing batsman who treated the venerable chairman with respect.
Skipper Rikesh did an excellent job all afternoon and even losing the toss was a non issue as Thorpe chose to bat. The bowlers were asked to keep things tight and restrict the total if we could. All did their job with Tom Robinson and Nathan Scott the pick. With a target of 144 we felt confident providing we could get a solid start.
Rikesh showed confidence in youngsters Jack Houlihan and Josh Moore and they both proved the value of our fantastic junior coaching. Both had the time and the technique needed and it could have been a double red inker with just a little more patience. In the end Jack scored a very good 60 odd and Rikesh played a masterly captains role to see us home with time to spare.
Let’s hope this is the start of a strong run by our thirds who should be pushing for promotion if they can find a consistent team.
