Fourth Team vs Oakham

KCC 4th XI v Oakham – 30th July

With the skipper still on holiday, erstwhile stand in Simon Munden took the 4th team over to picturesque Oakham for another crunch game in their quest to stay in Division 5, and looking to build on the excellent win from the previous week against Croft.
The game marked the return of Dunc Jones for his 2nd appearance of the season, but also the senior debut of young Archie Gibbs, who joined Josh Moore, Ben Cole, Freddie Bashford, Seb Smith and Shabaan Khan in a youthful line up.
After a strong start from the Oakham batters skipper Munden came to the party to return the outstanding figures of 6/24 as the hosts were dismissed for 199.
A great effort in the field with 8 bowlers used on a fast scoring ground.
In response skipper Munden named probably the youngest top 4 that a KCC side has ever fielded, with Seb Smith and Josh Moore opening up, to be followed by Freddie Bashford and Archie Gibbs.
Unfortunately Seb was unable to match the previous weeks heroics (but he will be back!), but young Josh (with his carribbean tan!), played beautifully on his way to a senior best 44 and is having a really good season since being promoted to the top of the order.
Unfortunately Freddie batted more like his father and didn’t trouble the scorers but on debut Archie played really well on his way to 17.
The average age of the top 4 soon changed though as skipper Munden and Chris Long were the next 2 in to bat.
Longman chipped in with 12 whilst the skipper ended unbeaten just short of a double jug on 47 not out!
Once Ben Cole had gone cheaply there were further memorable scenes as Mark Senior worked out how to hold his bat at last as he hit a season high 34 as the lads came up 25 runs short of another victory
However, a huge amount of positives from such a young side who proved that the future looks good and the 4s still have some fight left in them yet this season.
