Third Team vs Illston Abey

KCC 3rd Team V Illston Abbey – 30th July
The Richard’s welcomed Illston Abey to Fleckney Road.  With Greeno celebrating his wedding anniversary, FK still planning his wedding and Boosh nursing his broken nail, a much-changed team took to the field.

After winning the toss and electing to bat on a fine afternoon, Jack Houlihan and called–up John Pounds opened up and the scorecard quickly raced to 50 before Illston Abey slowed the rate down introducing spin from both ends.  Harry Pounds joined Jack rotating the strike but the early impetus KCC gained was slowly disappearing.

Nathan Scott got some momentum swinging back KCC’s way and with Harry busy alongside him the scorecard starting ticking again. The ‘ginger Jimmy’ reached 50 in the 35th over and then quickly accelerated with some great running alongside Dale Scott. Harry was out in the final over for a chance-less 91 showing great character and initiative throughout his innings. KCC went into tea with some great momentum finishing on 214-5.

New ball pairing Messo and Tom Robinson again bowled great areas and with the returning Stampy Lodge bowling with ‘good gas’, llston were quickly 4 down allowing the final Scott, Lewis to enter the fray. Lewis has been bowling with great rhythm over the past 5 weeks with the 3’s and continued to bamboozle batsman with great flight and some serious spin. With Rajiv also in and among the action, bowling with control, it became clear that the opposition were unsure whether to bat out for the draw or go for broke.

However patient bowling, backed by good fielding, paid off as Ollie Lodge re-entered the attack took a quick couple of wickets at one end, Harry ‘the’MVP’ bowling at the other end the game quickly moved on and Illston were 9 down. With a couple of overs remaining and a the only catch in the past 2 weeks going down, something magic was needed and Harry again provided it caught behind by Ben Lodge. HP returned figures of 3-22 to add to his 91 as KCC picked up 30 points.

Final credit needs to go to Ben Lodge, keeping for the first time ever after trying to replicate Ledge through his junior career, a new forte has been found. No byes and 2 catches summed up his and the all-round performance of the team.
