League Cup Final

The League Cup final was played last Sunday and saw the 1st XI playing Loughborough Town our regular opponents in Cup Finals over the past few years. Captain Sunny won the toss and elected to bowl. Loughborough got off to a strong start, however those watching and playing would agree that a number of boundaries were more through luck than judgment. They were pegged back in the middle overs through tight spells of bowling by Darren Shaw, Dave Whitmore and Aadil Ali who finished with 4 wickets and we were set 220 to win.

As usual Sunny and Matt Craven opened the batting for KCC and got us off to a great start both passing 50 in a partnership of 113, which kept us up wth rate despite Loughborough's best efforts. Sunny fell for 52 before Aadil was run out. The rate upped but with Craves looking set for a big score he was joined by Hamish Merriman with 60 required from 50 balls.

Hamish played brilliantly for his 29 from 21, before Craves sealed with win with a huge 6 taking him to an unbeaten 103 from only 102 balls.

Our second piece of silverware this summer and we still have a huge two weeks in the league, with back to back victories required again Langtons and fingers crossed Lutterworth slip up again Barrow Town. The boys are at home this Saturday in the crucial round of fixtures so feel free to come and cheer them along.

Presidents Day

This coming Sunday September 16th sees our Annual Presidents Day Match. This year we are staging a knockout 6 aside competition with teams comprising both senior and junior players from across the club. Games start at 12.30pm and we hope that there will be a large turnout to support Bob and to celebrate cricket at KCC. So if you are a player, social member, junior player or their parent please come along and enjoy an afternoon in good company.

Annual Club Dinner

Just a reminder to reserve Saturday October 27th in your diary. That’s the date for our Annual Club Dinner and Presentation Night where we can look forward to a night of good food and at least one funny speech (if Whitty turns up). Tickets will be available shortly.

External Cricket at KCC

Last Sunday we hosted our final ECB final of the season with Yorkshire defeating Lancashire in the National 50+ Final. Over the course of the summer we have welcomed Leicestershire Second XI four times, New Zealand Ladies and staged 3 ECB National Finals. These games are a major source of income for the club raising well in excess of £10,000 of much needed cash. An army of helpers have played their part in getting the ground ready and providing great hospitality in the clubhouse and all deserve a round of applause. However a special thank you should go to Jan Ellwood who lead the catering effort and Steve Pollard who ensured that wickets and ground were in great order.
