Cricket Update, 100 Club Winners, Bar Opening, Lions matches, Sponsors

Lots of updates this week, the holiday season is upon us, so a couple of weeks worth of news in this update.

Cricket Update

On the field, things are going well for the senior men's teams as we pass the half-way point of the league season, with the 1st XI top of the Premier Division & the other teams in the top four of their respective divisions. Their is also a County Cup quarter-final to look forward to this Sunday as the 1st XI play Newtown Linford at KCC in what is likely to be a cracker.

With such good numbers for availability this year, it has been great to see a balance of experience, ex-juniors now established as senior players and many juniors contributing to the successes across the teams with Freddie Bashford knocking on the 1st team door, Ellis Hanger making his 2nd team debut, Akash Bhakta skippering the 3's for the first time, Benny Bashford and Kennard Krishna also regularly contributing.

The 4th team are ensuring the next batch of youngsters are contributing week in, week out, with Albert Pennelli, Jake Long, Ollie Stone and Yuvi Patel marking their mark alongside two 'older' returnees and in the leagues highest run-scorers, Ben Matthew and Tim Stimpson.

The womens team are having a mixed season with some good results and some struggles in a very strong league. Our skipper Victoria Earland is representing Leicestershire on a regular basis and it has been great to see Lara Barratt and Ali Wall making their league debuts for the 4th team showing that cricket can be a mixed gender sport, therefore we are always encouraging women to participate and get involved in the great set-up we have.

The junior section is going very well with strong performances across all age groups. The U11 hardball team have a 100% record as do the U13b team. All other teams have a positive win ratio, with the odd defeat but all sit in promising positions as the season starts to move towards conclusion.

A new sponsor has also been taking lots of pictures of our games and we are delighted to team up with Andrew Cooper photography. Andrew has moved to the village and will be taking photos at KCC throughout the season. If any senior or junior players want Andrew to come and take some of them playing with the view to purchase some prints then please let us know. 100 Club Winners

Enough cricket waffle, I know this is why everyone is reading and subscribing to the update. The latest winners of the 100 club.

The June draw was a double draw and the winners are:

  • George Whitmore - £75
  • Steve Thompson - £150

Congratulations to both, hopefully you'll be buying a couple of beers on Sunday with that and I will see you there.
For anyone else wanting to join the 100 club, please contact Alison Pedley - alison.pedley11@gmail.com

Bar Opening

The bar will be continuing to open on Thursday & Friday evenings and Saturday and Sunday from 12 until late and we encourage members old and new to come along now that 'Freedom Day' has passed.

We will be showing the British & Irish Lions test series which starts this Saturday at 5pm and Cory has arranged a new special ale from our sponsors at the Langton Brewery - 'Local Lock which is brewed to 4% and pours a copper colour. With a caramel like malty flavour and a subtle hint of spice it is a very quaffable, session ale whether you are showing the rugby or not. Give it a try you will not be disappointed'

I'd love to say that the above description was sent to me by Abbo..............

However we will be keeping certain measures in place and ask that you are respectful to other members and our staff that might still want to follow the tighter measures that were in place. We want KCC to be a welcoming, comfortable place for all our members and this can be achieved through respecting others and their needs.

A long update for this Tuesday morning - as always if you have any questions for the committee about anything at KCC, or would like to get involved, please do get in touch.
