In a competitive match at home on the top pitch, the 2nd XI faced a tough challenge against Ashby Hastings CC. Despite a spirited effort, the 2s fell short by 51 runs as Ashby showcased a disciplined performance with bat and ball.
Batting first, Ashby posted a strong total of 217 for 5 off 45 overs, thanks mainly to an impressive 55-run knock by Joshua Saye coming in number 4. Following a steady start, the runs flowed throughout the innings and combined with late flurry of runs (53 off the last 6 overs), Ashby posted a more than competitive score on a well-used wicket. Kibworth's bowlers, led by wickets from Chris Hill, Freddie Bashford, Luke Spence, and Zubin Bandi did their upmost, but couldn't restrict Ashby's total.
Chasing a challenging target, Kibworth began positively, with an opening partnership of 46 runs between Bhavik Patel (27) and Ronan Rajshekar. However, the 10th over marked a turning point as Sam Perkins dismissed Patel, caught at cover. Kibworth struggled to regain momentum and despite key contributions came from Zubin Bandi (42) and Rickesh Patel (35) , they ultimately finished at 166 for 8 off 45 overs.
All of Ashby's bowlers played a pivotal role in securing their victory, but Alex Jones and Richard Lewis led the way claiming 3 wickets each, effectively curbing Kibworth's run chase.
Conclusion:
Ashby's demonstrated the importance of putting together a complete performance with bat, ball and in the field. In the coming weeks, Kibworth's new look team will look to build on positive signs, and seek their first victories on Saturday against Leicester Ivanhoe 2nd XI, and Sunday against Calverton CC from Nottingham in the Venous National Village Cup 2nd Round
