Higher Scoring Thriller in the Sun!
By Chris Long
Kibworth squeeze home.....just
Kibworth 153 - 2 off 20 Overs
Dunton Bassett 149--2 off 20 Overs
On a glorious sunny evening with the ground a picture the Under 15's of both Kibworth & Dunton produced a thrilling game of cricket that went right down to the wire. Oliver Stone skippering his young charges lost the toss and was asked to bat. Opening the batting with Drahm, they put on a excellent opening partnership of 73 before Drahm tried one lusty blow too many and was smartly stumped by the wicket keeper. Not long after Oliver had to retire after making a wonderful 53 not out. Jamie Green was unlucky to get run out for only 3 after confusion between himself and Hasan. However, this brought Jake Long to the crease who after a couple of swings and miss's found his timing and managed to hit 16 off the last over with a series of lofted and guided off drives.
However, Dunton came out to bat in a very positive mood. Led by their captain Ben, they made an excellent start and were 40 off the first 5 overs. Their scoring was slowed down once Kibworth found the right line and 5 tight overs from Oliver and Jake really put the pressure on the batsman. However, once skipper Ben had a to retire after hitting a wonderful 55 (the perfect junior knock; get to 49 and then hit a 6!) the scoring slowed dramatically and it left Dunton needing 19 off the last over. Shrey was given the task of bowling the last over and after a couple of lusty blows flew to the boundary, the pressure began to tell and 3 of the next 4 balls were wide. Shrey composed himself to fire the last ball of the match down straight and Dunton could only get a single and Kibworth had squeezed home by just 4 runs.
A really enjoyable game of cricket played in a great spirit by both teams. Next week the Under 15Bs travel to Enderby where they hope to continue their excellent start to the season.
