Q&A with Head of Men’s Cricket- Adam Meads

Saanchi Khanna17 Mar 2024 - 18:51

Get to know the KCC clubmakers on a deeper level!

1. Tell us about your role as head of cricket at KCC?

Adam: “So I head up mens cricket alongside Lara and Longy who do amazing jobs with the women and juniors. The role is there to provide extra support to captains and allow them as much as possible to focus on-field. Over the next summer, I’ll help align selection between the different teams, communicate and manage training, and be a point of contact for the league, amongst some other bits and pieces.”

2. How do you manage this alongside a full time job?

Adam: “I’m not really sure. I’ve pretty much always been involved in volunteer roles around cricket clubs. I’ve coached or managed teams since I was 16, so it’s always been a part of my daily life.. The short answer, very tolerant colleagues at work!”

3. What excites you for the 2024 season?

Adam: “The opportunity to keep building as a club. We had so many successes up and down the teams last season, it’s hard to pick one. I’m excited to see how the Women’s 1s do in Division One. Where that group has evolved from in the last couple of seasons is really inspiring, and the sky is really the limit for them.”

4. Is there any players that we should keep an eye out for this season?

Adam: “I think a club is always defined at the moment by how it can bring through it’s young players. And we have an amazing group at the moment who are 21 and younger. Within that, I’d probably pick out Ayaan Khan. He’s followed a slightly different path into our senior sides, but demonstrated his talents with the bat last season, so it’s exciting to see what another year’s experience can do.

On a personal note, it’s great to Peds getting the whites back out again. He’s been a friend of mine for many years but I’ve mostly known him as an umpire. But he’s an excellent batter and I know how excited he’ll be to support the 4s this season.”

5. What are the teams goals for 2024?

Adam: “Pretty similar to last year. Mens 1s and 2s to push as high as they can in the league tables, 3s and 4s to create great environments for players to enjoy and develop their cricket. Overall I think the overall goal for all teams is to buy into the community we have at Kibworth and live and breathe the successes of all the other teams. Men. Women. And Junior.”

6. What is your favourite club ground away from KCC?

Adam: “Home (in a cricketing sense) for me is Kimberley which is just outside of Nottingham. I’m a feel person when it comes to sport, and if you walk on the ground there, you feel it ouzes cricket soul. From the supporters that have been going up forever, to the quirky hill, to even the smells you used to get from the local bakery on a Sunday morning. It always brings back fond memories.”

7. Best match played in?

Adam: “Controversially, I’m going to have to say the Premier T20 final in 2019. Kibworth were involved but I was actually playing for the Kegworth in my last season there. Fortunately we (Kegworth) won on countback in a tied game, and the celebrations that evening will stick in my memory for a long time. The community spirit at Kegworth was amazing for the 12 years I played there, and it all boiled over with that success. Community is massive in cricket, and it is one of the reasons Kibworth attracted me, and why I enjoy it here so much!”

8. What's on your plate for cricket teas?

Adam: “Wow! Feels like a long time since they were a thing. I was never a massive tea person, but being a wicket keeper, any pasta salad used to go down well.”

9. Outside of cricket, how do you keep yourself entertained?

Adam: “Does that mean there’s life outside cricket?! We have an awesome dog, Bailey, who keeps us in good spirits. Other than that, if time allows, I enjoy cooking, travelling, reading. All the standard stuff.”
