Unbeaten Start Ends In Nottinghamshire!
By Chris Long
Openers fail and tail enders blown away!
The 4th Team came back to earth with a bit of a bump on Saturday losing to Shree Sanatan by 50 odd runs.
Restricting the opposition to 168 optimism was high at tea and the mood was still yet improved when the salad arrived at the start of the break unlike last season when it arrived mid tea in a carrier bag!! Highlight from the first innings was Lewis Scott's
remarkable 'fifer'. Remarkable in the fact that it contained three full tosses, one long hop and possibly one of the best boundary catches ever taken at this level of cricket !!
However, the run chase never really got going. Long going for a three ball duck and Parker and Harris going for not much more, the pressure really was on young gun Archie Gibbs
and captain fantastic Simon Munden
to dig us out of a hole. The pair did their best to rebuild the innings both scoring hard fought 40's but all the time the run rate was creeping up. Unfortunately once these pair departed the batting somewhat fell apart with Sam Pounds getting a first baller and Lewis Scott playing around a straight one. Mark Senior scored an impressive 5 not out and then proceeded to bore his travelling companion on the way home with how if he had batted up the order he could have 'nurdled' us to victory! We won't mention his stand up row wit the opposition wicket keeper when he had the audacity to appeal for a caught behind!
As ever the team played in the right spirit and though everyone had a good moan about the vast distance we had to travel (70 mile round trip - not quite Sydney to Perth !) it was an enjoyable afternoon with a good bunch of lads.
The 4ths are back in action this Saturday at home to Electricity Sports 3's where they hope to get their promotion push back on track!!
