In a hard-fought match against old rivals Loughborough Town CC, the 1st XI managed to secure a 28-run victory on a challenging pitch and a slow outfield. Both teams battled through tough batting conditions, but Kibworth emerged victorious thanks to some crucial individual performances and another tight bowling display.
Kibworth posted a total of 176, all out in the 50th over, with key contributions from Intekhab Khan (53 from 99 balls), Matt Craven (32 from 46), and Monik Patel, who added a valuable 21 off 28 in the death overs, including an enormous six. Uttam Ramji stood out for Loughborough, limiting Kibworth's total with impressive figures of 4 wickets for 37 runs.
In response, Loughborough lost Sanath Conjuvenkar in the 2nd over, caught by Jigar Naik off the bowling of Dave Whitmore. Steady wickets then reduced Town to 98 for 7, before they were finally dismissed for 148 in the 49th over. Darren Shaw led from the front taking 4 wickets for 22 runs supported by a great all-round display from Intekhab Khan, who claimed 2 wickets for 34 runs. Loughborough's captain Shyam Patel scoring a resilient 42 off 69 balls in vain.
Kibworth's victory continues their good start to the season and showcased their adaptability in challenging conditions. As they look ahead to their upcoming fixtures, Kibworth will aim to build on this success, facing a tough trip to Newtown Linford next Saturday followed by the first rounds of the Leicestershire Premier T20 on Monday at Leicester Ivanhoe.
